What we do

One crew for your whole yard.

From a single accent bed to a full exterior replant, prep, plant and protect, all under one roof. Every service below carries the same quality promise.

Planning it right

What your yard needs first.

Most yards fail from doing the right things in the wrong order. This is the sequence we’d walk in your yard, and why it saves you money twice.

1 · Water first

Drainage & irrigation.

Standing water and dry corners decide what survives. Fixing grade, downspouts and lines before planting protects everything that follows.

The least glamorous work on this page, and the one that decides whether the rest lasts.

2 · Bones next

Hardscape & structure.

Patios, walls and edging need machines and room to work. Build them before beds and lawn, not through them.

Pouring a patio after the garden is in means paying for parts of the garden twice.

3 · Then planting

Beds, trees & lawn.

Soil prepped, then the living layer: trees first (they own the space longest), beds after, lawn last so nobody tramples it.

A $30 tree in a $100 hole beats the reverse. Soil prep is the quiet hero.

4 · Keep it alive

The first two seasons.

New plantings win or lose in years one and two: watering rhythm, first prune, mulch renewed. Then the yard mostly carries itself.

Skip this stage and the prettiest install quietly shrinks. Care is part of the build, not an extra.

Only need one piece? Fine, we’ll tell you where it fits in the order, and what to leave room for.

The number lands in writing with a plant-health guarantee. If it isn’t right, we make it right.

The breakdown

What moves the number.

No mystery math. Four things decide what a landscape costs, and we walk every one with you before the quote lands.

Ground & prepGrading, soil and drainage, plus clearing what's already there, take the time. Honest ground work is most of the price.
Access & terrainHow the crew and materials reach the yard, gates, slope and tight side paths, all change the day.
Plants & materialsPlant sizes, stone and paver systems are the visible spend, and worth choosing well.
Scope & seasonHow much of the yard, and how flexible the timing. A planting window that fits the season costs less.

Whatever the mix, you get one clear quote, in writing, before any work starts.

What a serious landscaping quote includes, ours or anyone’s:
  • Plant list with sizes and counts, not “shrubs”
  • Soil prep named: what goes in, how deep
  • Grading & drainage: handled or excluded, stated
  • Who waters in the first weeks, and how
  • A start window you can plan around
  • Plant-establishment terms, in writing
If a quote skips these, ask why, whoever wrote it.

Recent jobs

Real work, in plain numbers.

Three jobs from the past few months, what they were, where, and how long they actually took.

Lawn renovation, overseeded
Woodstock·2 days

Aerated a tired 1,800 sq ft back lawn, top-dressed with a thin compost layer and overseeded with a perennial rye and fescue blend. Set the irrigation to short daily cycles so the new seed stayed damp through germination.

Paver patio & retaining wall
Laurelhurst·5 days

Built a 320 sq ft patio in tumbled concrete pavers over a compacted gravel base and bedding sand, with a two-course block retaining wall to hold the grade change. Polymeric sand swept into the joints and a hidden drain line run behind the wall.

Drip irrigation repair
Sellwood·3 hours

Tracked a soggy bed back to a cracked poly line and a stuck valve. Replaced the fitting, swapped the solenoid and reset the controller zones so the front beds and the lawn no longer ran on the same schedule.

Where we work

Proudly serving the Portland metro

A lot of our work comes from a neighbor who watched us plant the house next door. If you're in the metro, we're just around the corner.

Zone 8b around here: wet, mild winters, dry late summers and heavy clay — the reason we plant in fall, mulch deep and put drainage before everything.

How it goes

From first call to done.

No mystery in the middle. This is the path the job actually takes, start to finish.

01
The walkthroughwithin 2-3 days

We come out and walk the whole property with you, checking sun, slope, soil and drainage where the work would go. You point out what you want, we flag what the site actually allows, and we take measurements and photos on the spot.

02
Quote lands in writingwithin 3-4 days after

You get an itemized quote by email, broken out by area and material, with plant counts, base depths and a clear scope. The price is flat, so the number you sign is the quote we give you.

03
We book the start date1-3 weeks out

Once you approve, we lock a start date and order materials, pavers, plants and aggregate, so nothing holds up the crew. You get the date, the crew lead's name and a rough day-by-day plan before we break ground.

04
Crew builds the yardday of the job

The same crew shows up when we say, grades and preps the base, then sets hardscape, plants and irrigation in order. The lead texts you a photo at the end of each day so you can see progress even if you are at work.

05
Walkthrough and warrantybefore we leave

We walk the finished yard together, run the irrigation zones in front of you and fix anything you flag on the spot. You get the written plant and workmanship warranty in hand, and every offcut, pallet and clipping is hauled off before we pull out.

Before you hire anyone

Five questions for every landscaper.

Including us. Ask these on the first call and you’ll know inside five minutes who plants for the photo, and who plants for year five.

01What happens if a plant dies in six months?

Listen for establishment terms with a number in them, not “that almost never happens”. Then get that number in writing.

02What goes into the soil before anything goes on it?

A pro talks compost, depth and drainage before plant names. If the answer starts and ends with “we’ll till it”, keep asking.

03Who waters it for the first month, and how?

New plantings die of thirst more than anything else. A good answer names a schedule, or an irrigation plan, before you ask twice.

04Is the plant list specific, sizes and counts?

“12 boxwood, 3-gallon” can be checked at delivery. “Assorted shrubs” cannot. Vague lists are where budgets quietly stretch.

05Can I see a yard you planted three years ago?

Anyone’s work looks good on install day. A yard that still looks intentional in year three is the real portfolio.

Bring this list to the estimate. We’ll answer all five before you ask.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Getting started
Do you charge for estimates?+
No. Written estimates for lawns, planting, hardscape and commercial grounds are always free, we visit, measure, talk through layout and plantings, and email you a clear, itemized quote with no obligation.
How soon can you start?+
Most estimates go out within a day, and typical projects are scheduled within one to two weeks. For urgent replants, before a move, a sale or an event, just tell us the date and we'll do our best to fit you in.
What does “free estimates” mean?+
Before any work begins, we give you one clear quote to approve, prep, materials and labor included. No hourly meter, no surprise add-ons at the end. You always decide before we start.
How long will my project take?+
A single bed refresh is usually a day; a full front yard two to three; a whole-property install three to five, depending on prep and weather. You get a schedule with your quote, and we actually keep it.
What should I do before the crew arrives?+
Very little. Unlock the gate, bring pets inside and move anything fragile off the beds and lawn, we handle the rest, including protecting paths, siding and irrigation heads before work starts.
Do I need to be home while you work?+
Only for the first walkthrough and the final one. Most clients are at work while we are in the yard, we text when we arrive, and the crew lead sends photos when the day wraps.
Plant, color & finish
What plants and materials do you use?+
Nursery-grade plants suited to the Pacific Northwest, and contractor-grade materials, paver systems, drip lines and controllers we would put in our own yards. If you have a favorite nursery or product, we are happy to work with it.
How do you decide what goes where?+
Light, soil and water decide, not the catalog. We read where the sun actually lands, where water sits in winter, and choose plants that will still fit the space in five years.
Can you work from a photo or a garden we liked?+
Yes. Bring photos of any garden you love and we translate the feel, plant shapes, layers, colors, into what thrives on your site and light.
Is your work safe for kids and pets?+
Yes. We favor low-risk plantings around play areas, flag anything to know about, and use pet-safe practices for treatments, with clear re-entry notes after every visit.
What actually happens below the surface?+
The invisible work decides everything: grading so water runs the right way, soil amendment so roots take, compacted base under every patio. It is most of the job, and the reason results last.
Prep, durability & guarantee
Why do some landscapes fail in a year?+
Wrong plant in the wrong spot, no soil prep, no water plan. A bed that ignores light and drainage starts dying the day it is planted, which is why our first visit is a site read, not a sales pitch.
How long until the yard is usable again?+
Lawns from sod take about three weeks of light traffic, new beds are walkable immediately, and patios are ready the same week. We leave every site raked, blown and tidy each evening.
Is your work guaranteed?+
Yes. Every project carries a written one-year workmanship warranty. If a finish isn't right, we come back and make it right, no fine print, no runaround, backed by licensed, insured and careful crews.
Can you plant in cold or rainy weather?+
We plant in the right window, avoid saturated or frozen ground, and time the work to the forecast so roots establish. When the weather is wrong we hold off a few days rather than put plants in ground that won't let them take.
Which look fits my house?+
Tap through the palette in our Ground Studio above, it previews moss, mulch and stone tones on the whole page. Bring your favorite to the walkthrough and we plan around it.
Is the Care Plan worth it?+
For most homes, yes: an annual inspection, free touch-up and tidy visits, priority scheduling, and 15% off future projects typically pay for the membership the first time you use it, and keep every bed looking cared-for.
